I got my love of animals from my mother.  We have had pets for as long as I can remember and once I began volunteering for the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter, there was no going back!  I love showing animals that humans are meant to love and protect them.  I know it is my mission to help those that have been let down by humans to learn to trust again.  I started rescuing animals when I moved back to Nac in 2001 and have no plans to ever stop!

My family moved here to Nacogdoches in 2000, I decided one day to go visit our shelter.  I met a really sweet ACO there and she said that the shelter could really use foster moms, I filled out all the paperwork and brought home my first foster which was a really sad Chihuahua.  I was hooked on saving these animals and working to get them to a loving forever family. Rescue is a hard job, you have fosters that just jump in your heart and spend sometimes months getting that dog ready for that forever home.  Every one of them that leaves me takes a part of my heart with them.

I adopted my first shelter dog in 1998, and all of my pets have come from the shelter or have been dumped at/near my house. In 2013, I was looking to adopt after my senior dog passed away. I was undecided on which dog to choose and the shelter manager suggested fostering. Not only did I adopt that foster dog, I never stopped fostering! Through Facebook,  I met rescue contacts locally and in the northeast. Rescue is like the Starfish Story. We can't save them all, but we can make a difference to "that one," and the next, and the one after that.

I retired from teaching and was looking to find my next passion. Along comes a picture of Coco on the Nac Foster Rescue Facebook page. Coco needed a foster and I very much wanted to foster the beautiful, sweet, little brown Chihuahua. My application was approved!! Since Coco, I have fostered 5 other dogs and will continue to make a difference to dogs in need. The Nac Foster group is very supportive in the foster experience. My family has come to enjoy fostering as well. Being on the board is a rewarding honor.
